Glen Doyle

When you grew up in the Doyle household you had many role models, soccer people you admired and brothers and friends you had to compete with for a spot to play on a Laurentians team. Glen rose to the challenge and played for many years on Laurentian teams. His parents were also supportive of him and his brothers and encouraged them to play hard and play fair.

Even though like most young boys in St. Lawrence he started playing in the meadows, it was at age 10 that his organizes minor soccer started. He won a Provincial Under 16 title in 1977, Under 21 Provincial title, two Provincial Challenge Cup titles, two Premier Cup Championships 1982 & 1983.

Glen`s most memorable moments are the championships wins Under 16 Provincial Title, and the two Provincial Challenge Cup titles in 1982 & 1993.

After his senior soccer was over he moved away and Nova Scotia became the beneficiary of his soccer skill & knowledge and he continued to play in their recreational league and then Masters soccer when he became old enough. He also is giving back to soccer as he coaches Minor soccer in Elmsdale.

His skill level was never a question and in 1975 he was Newfoundland Soccer Skills Champion, he won other individual awards such as MVP awards but it was as a team player that he excelled.

Through his career he was coached by Junior Edwards, Jack Pittman, Greg Quirke, Junior Doyle, Gord Dunphy, Myles Kennedy and many more. He also had the opportunity to play with some of St. Lawrences finest soccer players as he played from the late 70`s to the early 90`s`, Junior Edwards, Junior Doyle, Greg Quirke, Frank Pittman, Al Slaney, Wils Molloy and many others. Glen credits Junior Edwards as the most influential person as a player and a coach.

Glen enjoyed being involved in Soccer in St. Lawrence because It’s the best place to in the province to play. It has the best players and coaches and above all the most heart and determination. When you mention St. Lawrence, soccer automatically comes to mind.

Glen is inducted to the St. Lawrence Hall of Fame along with his brother Noel & cousin Paul and alongside Junior Doyle who is already in the Hall of Fame.
